The Observatori de Política Exterior Europea (European Foreign Policy Observatory) was linked to several projects, which resulted in publications such as The Role of the Parliaments in European Foreign Policy: Debating on accountability and legitimacy (Barbé and Herranz 2005), La política mediterránea de España: Entre el Proceso de Barcelona y la Política Europea de Vecindad (Barbé, Mestres and Soler 2007), two monographs on Spain’s strategy within the European Union (Spain in Europe 1996-2004; Spain in Europe 2004-2008) as well as a volume edited by Esther Barbé, ¿Existe una brecha transatlántica ? Estados Unidos y la Unión Europea tras la crisis de Irak (Libros de la Catarata 2005).

As regards doctoral training, the group produced several PhD theses throughout this period: Juan Pablo Soriano, ‘La cultura estratégica de las potencias medias: Brasil y México en la seguridad interamericana (2001-2006)’ (2009); Anna Herranz, ‘Identidad, seguridad y legitimidad en los procesos de ampliación de la UE: Los debates sobre ampliación en la UE y en Alemania (1977-2007)’ (2009); Elisabeth Johansson-Nogués, ‘The construction of an EU foreign policy identity: Identitarian resonance and dissonance in the European Union’s relations with the Mediterranean, Northern European and Western Balkan borderlands’ (2008) and Eduard Soler, ‘La Unión Europea ante la adhesión turca (1997-2004). Intereses, identidad y consideraciones morales’ (2007). Several pre-doctoral fellows joined the group: Laia Mestres, Maria Àngels Sabiote, Eduard Soler, Raül Hernández, Anna Herranz and Michal Natorski.
