Beatriu de Pinós Research Fellow and Observatori researcher Eva Michaels contributed to Carnegie Europe’s blog series Judy Dempsy’s Europe twice in 2022 – April 28 and October 23 – and on January 19, 2023. In the most recent edition, along with other ENGAGE partners, Michaels gave her answer to the question of whether strategic autonomy has run its course as a policy approach, characterising strategic autonomy as “now on indefinite gardening leave” but likely to revive in future.
In April’s edition, in answer to the question “Is Europe Taking Resilience Seriously?”, prof. Michaels ascertained that the EU is constantly confronted by the need to improve resilience and recommends the recently launched European Political Community as the appropriate vehicle to pursue this.
In the October edition, in answer to the question of whether Finnish and Swedish NATO membership is useful to European Security, prof. Michaels provided her clear assessment in the affirmative, for both the long and short terms.
